A resort hotel occupies an entire separate private island. The property has everything for a vacation: restaurants, a spa, sports facilities, kids' zones, and its own beaches. Guests here are hosted to luxury-class standards.
The difference between these formats goes deeper than price. It is in the level of service, the rules, and what you will see outside your room.

If you are staying at a guesthouse but want to see a resort, buy a day pass. This way you will spend the day on the property, swim at a good beach, and try a cocktail at the bar.
To do this, you need to pay an entrance fee, review the rules, and get a permit to stay. The pass costs noticeably less than a night at the resort, and the exact price is confirmed by the hotel itself: it depends on the category and season.
Get the pass on a weekday and arrange it in advance. In high season, there are fewer spots available for such visits.
