6 Places in the Netherlands where tulips bloom in spring

Tulips bloom in the Netherlands for only eight weeks. The peak falls in mid-April, when the fields between Amsterdam and Haarlem turn into ribbons of color. We picked six places where the season is at its best and checked the dates and prices for 2026.

In April, tulips are planted in 85 locations across the city: from Vondelpark and Dam Square to the streets of the Museum Quarter. Around 880,000 bulbs bloom in total (iamsterdam.com, as of 09/2026), and admission is free everywhere. The full list of locations is on the official festival map.

If you are visiting for the weekend, set aside half a day and explore on foot. The spots are scattered around the center, with about a 30-minute walk between the farthest ones. It is most convenient to stay near the canal ring: Amsterdam hotels on Trip.com.

2. Amsterdam tulip museum on Prinsengracht

The museum occupies a small building directly opposite the Anne Frank House. It tells the story of the 17th-century tulip mania, and the shop sells certified bulbs. It will take you about half an hour to see everything.

Stop by if you are in the city outside the season: the streets have no tulips yet, but the exhibition runs year-round. The museum is closed only on April 27 and December 25.

• The catch: the museum is small, so visit it as part of a walk through the Jordaan.

3. Keukenhof royal flower park

This is one of the largest flower gardens in the world: about 32 hectares and more than 7 million flowers (official figures, 09/2026), including hundreds of tulip varieties. Over eight weeks, the park welcomes roughly a million visitors. Tickets are sold by entry time, and in April the morning slots go first.

Pick the earliest time slot for yourself: by 11:00 the main flower beds are already packed. If you don't want to deal with buses, tours to Keukenhof with transfer take care of the transportation.

4. Museum de Zwarte Tulp in Lisse

Outside Keukenhof, Lisse is worth a stop at Museum de Zwarte Tulp. All the exhibits here are dedicated solely to tulips: the history of cultivation, old tools, varieties. Walking and cycling routes through the Bollenstreek fields start from the museum.

5. Bloemencorso Bollenstreek

Once a year, a parade of flower-decorated floats makes its way through the Bollenstreek region. The route stretches 40 kilometers between Noordwijk and Haarlem (official website, as of 09/2026), and it starts on Saturday morning. Check the parade website for the exact schedule and times.

The best shots are taken on the approach to Keukenhof, where the floats slow down. Arrive an hour early if you want to stand right by the road.

6. Noordoostpolder Tulip Festival

This is where most of the country's tulips are grown, so the fields stretch for kilometers. During the season, Noordoostpolder opens two routes, one for cars and one for bikes, both free. The dates are confirmed by the tourist office (as of 09/2026).

It's an hour's drive north of Amsterdam, and getting here without a car is inconvenient. You can easily connect your dates with trains across the Netherlands on Trip.com, and rent a car once you're there.
