How much does a trip to Georgia cost: a backpacker's budget for two weeks
💶 Two-week Georgia budget at 09/2026 prices: lari exchange rate, hostels, food, trains and marshrutkas, daily expense…
Read more →Georgia looks compact, but planning it is not easy. A single trip brings together Tbilisi, the sea in Batumi, the wineries of Kakheti and the mountain roads of Svaneti, and there is usually not enough time for all of it at once. You have to choose. People come to this section with specific questions: which season to go in, how many days to leave for the capital, where to stay and how to get to the mountains.
Most of the articles are about Tbilisi. There is a walking route around the city for several days, an overview of the main places with transport tips, and a selection of museums with options for a rainy day. Walking tours and food tours are covered separately. To help you choose where to stay, we have looked at the city's neighborhoods with their transport and prices, hotels in the center, and rooms with a balcony and a panoramic view. The trip from the airport to the center is laid out option by option: bus, taxi, pre-booked driver.
The second large group of articles is about the sea. For Batumi there is weather by month, areas to stay in, hotels by the sea and with a pool, a one-day walking route and a list of places with tickets and opening hours. The trip from Batumi airport to the center is covered too. If you are looking for somewhere quieter, the overview of seaside resorts from Batumi to Sarpi and the selection of hotels along the coast as far as Shekvetili will be useful.
The third group is mountains and regions. We write about the Georgian Military Highway and whether an ordinary car is enough for it, about the trip to Kazbek, about trekking in Mestia and Svaneti, about the Tetnuldi resort and other ski resorts. There is a route through Borjomi and Bakuriani, a trip to Kakheti with Sighnaghi, and an article about rtveli, the grape harvest. Practical pieces cover the trip budget, cash, mobile service, taxis, car rental, seasons, food and souvenirs.
Every article opens with a short answer to the main question. Practical sections follow: how to get there, how much time to allow, what to buy in advance. For prices and timetables we give the source and the date we checked it. We do not hide the downsides: rain in Batumi, difficult stretches of mountain road, rising costs in certain parts of the budget. In articles about entry rules and insurance we do not give advice. We show what to check with official sources.
The section suits people who travel independently and put the trip together themselves: picking a neighborhood, comparing hotels, working out the budget, deciding whether to get a car. It is useful both for a first trip and for a return visit, when you want to go beyond the capital. It will help less if you are looking for a ready-made escorted tour. We do not sell trips and do not put them together to order.
It is best to start with the season. The articles on when to go to Georgia, on spring and on a winter trip will help you settle on a month and a purpose. Then read the overview of resorts for the sea, the mountains and spa treatment, and pick your bases. After that, move on to the routes around Tbilisi and the trips out of it, to the hotel selections and to the piece on budget. Transport and car rental are easy to leave until the end.
The section belongs to "Europe" within "Destinations". Articles on the sea, hotels and routes of a single city are gathered in the "Batumi" subsection. If you are still comparing countries, take a look at the neighboring sections on the same level: "Bulgaria", "France", "Germany", "Finland", "Andorra" and others. They are built on the same principle, so comparing seasons and costs will be easier.
Prices, timetables and entry conditions change, so we go back to the articles and check them against the official websites of carriers, museums and government services. The date of the check is given in the text. Before you travel, still recheck the key points yourself: opening hours, the condition of mountain roads, document requirements. That way a plan built on these articles will still work on the day you leave.
