Walking route through Nove Mesto: eighteen spots in one day
✈️ Walking route through Nove Mesto in Prague: 18 spots from Wenceslas Square to Charles Square, museum and theater…
Read more →The Czech Republic is often planned as Prague plus something nearby. In practice there are more questions: how many days to leave for the capital, whether to stay overnight in Karlovy Vary, what to choose outside Prague. The articles in this section help you settle that before the trip. We have arranged them so that your plan comes together step by step.
Most of the articles are about Prague. There are itineraries for two and three days, a guide for a first visit, and a breakdown of spending on transport, accommodation and tickets. Ways to get from the airport to the center are covered separately. The sights have detailed articles of their own: Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Vyšehrad, the Clementinum, Týn Church, the Orloj astronomical clock, the Powder Tower, the Dancing House, the Žižkov TV Tower. Alongside them are roundups of museums, viewpoints, parks and gardens, beer halls and breweries.
To help you pick dates there is a month-by-month overview of the seasons: weather, crowds, how busy the city gets. It is backed up by articles on winter walks, Easter markets and August events. Accommodation in Prague is covered in two ways. First come the neighborhoods to stay in, then roundups of hotels in the center by category: three and four stars.
Outside the capital the section covers several regions. Karlovy Vary is described as a one-day walking route, with colonnades, springs and viewpoints. For those going for treatment there are articles on the spa hotels of Karlovy Vary and Mariánské Lázně: their specialization, treatments, the cost of a course. South Moravia is represented by wine routes, the Lednice and Valtice chateaux, Brno and Znojmo. There is also Bohemian Switzerland for a weekend, Český Krumlov with its neighborhoods and hotels, the castles of Hluboká nad Vltavou and Houska, and skiing.
Every article opens with a short answer to the main question. Then come the practical parts: tickets, opening hours, how to get there, how much time to allow. We check prices and timetables against the official websites of the sights and carriers, and we state the source and the date of the check. We write about the downsides plainly: lines at the entrance, crowds in high season, heat in summer, paid climbs up the towers.
The section is meant for people who travel independently and want to put together a day-by-day plan in advance. It suits a first trip to Prague, a short weekend getaway and a trip to the spa towns for treatment. If you need a ready-made guided tour, these articles will not be enough: we provide information, we do not organize trips. Visa and medical questions also need to be checked with official sources.
A good place to start is the overview of the seasons, so you can settle on dates. Then choose an itinerary by number of days and compare it with the article on costs. After that, move on to the neighborhood and the hotel. Leave the articles on individual sights for last, when it is already clear what makes it into the plan. If you have a spare day, look at the articles on Karlovy Vary or Bohemian Switzerland.
"Czech Republic" belongs to the "Europe" part of the "Destinations" section. Everything about the capital is gathered in the "Prague" subsection. "Germany" sits on the same level, which is handy if your route runs through both countries. Next to them you will also find "France", "Belgium", "Denmark", "Finland", "England", "Bulgaria" and "Andorra".
Ticket prices, timetables and the events calendar change every season. We update the articles and check the data against official sources, and we give the date of the latest check in the text. Before buying tickets, open the website of the sight itself anyway: it takes a minute. For now the section is mostly Prague, and we say so plainly. The other regions are represented by individual routes and roundups, enough to add a few more days to the capital.
