For locals, New Year is not a religious holiday but an occasion to host guests. Older people celebrate it at home with family. For tourists, though, the Emirates offer a full program: concerts with artists from different countries, gala dinners, dance parties, and fireworks in nearly every district. The program starts well before New Year's Eve and continues for almost two weeks after it.

What to do on New Year in the UAE
You can build your vacation here in different ways. You can lie on the beach all day, go on a city tour, or spend time at a shopping mall.
In December, the city is decorated with artificial Christmas trees, and Santa Clauses appear on the streets. Souvenirs and Christmas gifts are sold in every mall, and kids usually have plenty to do.

Find out in advance whether the fireworks are visible from your room's balcony. If so, you can welcome midnight without the crowds and pushing. If not, plan to head toward the water or downtown.
For younger travelers, there's the option of a beach party or nightclub. In Dubai, clubs range from expensive to more casual, with VIP areas or without. On New Year's Eve, roads are jammed, so it's best to get to your destination early.

How long is the flight to the UAE and how to get there
A direct flight from Central Europe to Dubai takes about seven hours. With a layover, the trip stretches to nine hours or more, especially if the connection is overnight.

What you remember from New Year's Dubai
New Year's Dubai is remembered for the sea and the light. In December you swim in warm water, and in the evening the city lights up with the glow of skyscrapers. The festive illumination and fireworks cost nothing: you can see them from the promenade, from the park, and from the water.
The metro deserves special attention. The trains here run without drivers, fully automated, and the stations look like part of a large shopping mall.
