Where to stay in Pattaya
Mera Mare Pattaya sits right on Beach Road, almost directly across from the beach. Central Festival shopping mall is about 500 meters away, a five-minute walk. Rooms are modern, with air conditioning, a safe, a minibar, and a balcony. Some rooms have a kitchenette and a coffee machine.

Dukachev, CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0), Wikimedia CommonsThe property has a pool, a fitness center, and a restaurant serving European and Thai cuisine. Shops and cafes are nearby. Check current prices on Trip.com. Who it's for: those who want the city center and the beach within steps. Not for: those looking for a quiet hotel away from Beach Road.
1. Walking Street: the center of nightlife
Walking Street is the epicenter of Pattaya's nightlife, where crowds pour in every evening looking for entertainment. Along the street you'll find beer bars, go-go clubs, discos, restaurants, and even an ice bar. The street is closed to cars, so you'll only be walking.

Walking Street is worth walking through at least once to understand the character of this city, and whether you like that atmosphere or not is for you to decide.
The catch: in the evening it's best not to come here with kids, because the atmosphere is frankly adult.
2. Sanctuary of Truth: wood without a single nail
The Sanctuary of Truth, also known as Prasat Sut Ja-Tum, began construction in 1981. It's a massive wooden structure by the sea with intricate carving on every piece. Construction is still ongoing, and no one can tell you the exact completion date. In Thailand that's par for the course.

Open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, last entry around 5:00 PM. Allow an hour and a half to two hours for your visit. On the grounds there's an extra charge for boat rides and horseback riding.
No overnight stay in Pattaya? The Sanctuary of Truth is doable as a day trip from Bangkok. The drive takes about two hours each way.
3. Big Buddha: a panorama of the whole city
The Big Buddha (Wat Phra Yai) towers over Pattaya from Pratamnak Hill, and it's not only tourists who come here. Locals climb up to the statue to meditate and enjoy some quiet, especially early in the morning.
© Alharomain354 · CC BY-SAPhoto: Alharomain354, CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0), Wikimedia CommonsThe climb up the stairs is a bit tiring, but from the top you get a view over the whole bay and the city. Entry is free. Come at opening time, before the heat and the crowds arrive, and you'll find the place peaceful.
The Big Buddha is also included in Pattaya sightseeing tours. Convenient if you want to avoid taking taxis.
4. Wat Yansangwararam: a quiet temple in the south
Wat Yansangwararam temple lies about 20 kilometers south of Pattaya. It's built in Indian style and serves as an important center for monks of the Thammayut tradition. Besides the temple, the grounds include a school and a hospital.

On a clear day you can see the Gulf of Siam from there. Entry is free. The place is quiet, with noticeably fewer tourists than in the city.
5. Khao Chi Chan: the golden Buddha in the cliff
A few kilometers from Wat Yansangwararam stands Khao Chi Chan, a mountain with a giant Buddha image. It makes sense to combine the two places into one trip.
© song songroov · CC BYPhoto: song songroov, CC BY (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0), Wikimedia CommonsThe figure, about 130 meters tall, was etched into the cliff with a laser and then covered in gold. It's called the largest Buddha image on earth. The sheer scale alone makes it worth a visit. The best light for photos is early morning or closer to sunset.
6. Jomtien Beach: an option for families
Jomtien is a family beach at the southern end of Pattaya, and in high season it can get crowded and tight. The beach itself is pleasant, but not one of those postcard-perfect ones you're used to in the rest of Thailand.

Watching beach life in Jomtien is interesting in itself. The catch: for truly clean water and quiet, you'll have to head out to the islands.
7. Koh Larn: an island with clean water
The small island of Koh Larn lies west of Pattaya. The water here is noticeably cleaner than at the city beaches. That's why people come here to swim, dive and snorkel.
© Stefan Fussan · CC BY-SAPhoto: Stefan Fussan, CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0), Wikimedia CommonsThe island has six white-sand beaches. The ferry departs from Bali Hai Pier at the end of Walking Street, and the trip takes 30-40 minutes. A ticket on the regular ferry costs 40 baht as of April 2026 (as of 09/2026, Koh Larn Info). A speedboat will cost more.
The first ferry from the mainland leaves around 7:00, and the last one from the island around 18:00. Plan your day so you don't end up stuck on the last departure.
8. Nong Nooch: gardens, elephants and supercars
The Nong Nooch tropical garden is about a 25-minute drive from Pattaya. Besides the well-kept landscape gardens, you'll find a showroom with sports cars and a big elephant show here. The place suits the whole family, and kids will enjoy it too.
© Michael Karavanov · CC BY-SAPhoto: Michael Karavanov, CC BY-SA (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0), Wikimedia CommonsGarden-only admission costs 600 baht for an adult and 500 baht for a child 90-140 cm tall (as of 09/2026, Traveloka). A ticket with the elephant show and cultural program costs more, and the garden shows its price on the booking page (booking on the garden's website, as of 09/2026). Shows usually run at 10:30, 11:30, 13:30, and 15:30. Check the schedule on the day of your visit.

Where else to stay in Pattaya
Besides Mera Mare, you have plenty of options on Beach Road and in Jomtien. Among time-tested hotels, travelers often choose the higher-end Wave Hotel Pattaya, as well as Arden Hotel and DeeProm closer to the city center. If you want a quieter stay away from the busy waterfront, take a look at The Forest Hotel in the Jomtien area.
Prices here depend heavily on the season, and in high season few beachfront rooms remain available. Book in advance, and you'll get both a better location and a more pleasant rate.
How to get to Pattaya
From Europe, the most convenient option is to fly to Bangkok and then travel to Pattaya by bus or taxi. The trip takes about two hours. From some cities, such as Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, there are direct flights to U-Tapao Airport, which serves Pattaya.
Within Thailand, there are many options. Large intercity buses, minivans, and taxis run to Pattaya regularly. You can depart from Bangkok's airport, from the Khao San Road area, or directly from your hotel. Check schedules and prices before your trip, as they change by season.
