Yellowstone: what to see and how to get to the geyser park
🌋 Geysers, colorful hot springs, a waterfall and wild bison: what to see in Yellowstone, entry fees, when to go and…
Read more →North America is too big for a single trip. Distances, seasons and prices vary enormously from one part of it to another. Readers usually arrive here with a country already chosen and a specific task in mind: fitting national parks into a vacation, picking a coast for a beach break, or working out what a big city will cost. We have gathered articles for tasks like these. You will find few general overviews of the continent here.
Most of the articles cover the USA. These are driving routes: the national parks of Utah, California with its parks and coastline, the Blue Ridge Parkway in fall, stops on the road from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon. Separate pieces are devoted to the parks: Yellowstone, Yosemite, Glacier, Olympic. There are city topics too: the budget for a trip to New York, inexpensive hotels, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens, Broadway tickets, the Empire State Building, Alcatraz, one day in Los Angeles. For hikers there is an article on the Appalachian Trail: preparation, permits, time on the trail.
Canada is represented by nature and practical topics: Banff, Moraine Lake, the Capilano bridge, a trip to Niagara Falls from Toronto, an overview of the country's main sights. For Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Cuba the focus is on resort vacations. These are selections of all-inclusive hotels, hotels with a water park for families, choosing a coast for a trip with children, tours from Cancún, guided tours of Havana, the resorts of Cuba. The resort of Cap Cana is described separately: beaches, golf and the airport transfer. There is also a piece on what Mexicans themselves recommend to visitors: the food, Coyoacán, the Day of the Dead.
The third group of articles: seasons, events and connectivity. We look at hurricane season in the USA, fall in New England, the dates of the Art Basel Miami Beach fair and of the golf tournament in Los Cabos. For Mexico and Canada there are eSIM comparisons. Lesser-known places appear as well: Bishop Castle in Colorado, the Superstition Mountains in Arizona, Eternal Flame Falls in New York State.
Every article opens with a short answer to the main question. Practical sections follow: how to get there, how much time to allow, what to buy in advance, where to check the schedule. Every price and every set of opening hours comes with its source and the date it was checked. We name the downsides plainly: lines, long drives, seasonal restrictions, high costs in big cities. If the data cannot be confirmed, we say so openly.
This section suits people who plan on their own and want to understand the logistics in advance. That means travelers with a rental car, families with children choosing a resort, and those heading to a city for a few days. If you are looking for a ready-made escorted tour or personal advice, this section will not help. We do not sell trips and we do not put them together to order. We provide information so you can make your own decision.
A good place to start is the subsection for the country you need. Read the overview article first: a route for several days, a list of resorts or of sights. Then move on to the individual places that made it into your plan and look at tickets, opening hours and how to get there. Finish by checking the season and connectivity. Read the articles on events earlier if your travel dates are not fixed yet. This order saves time: the overall outline first, the details after.
This section is part of "Destinations" and is divided into subsections: "Dominican Republic", "Canada", "Cuba", "Mexico", "USA". An article about a particular country also sits in that country's subsection. If you are still comparing continents, look at the neighboring sections: "Europe", "Asia", "Africa", "Oceania", "Antarctica". For those looking at Mexico and the Caribbean, the closest section by topic is "South America".
Admission prices, park visiting rules and event dates change every season. We update the articles and check the data against the official websites of parks, museums and organizers. The date of the last check is given in the text. Before your trip, open the official source anyway: it is more accurate than any guidebook. Check questions of entry, visas and insurance only with government agencies and your insurance company. Choose a country, open the overview article and build your plan step by step.
