Sziget Festival 2027: tickets, camping and what to do beyond the stages

The Sziget Festival returns to Óbuda Island on August 10-14, 2027 (as of 09/2026, official website). Passes are already on sale, and the cheapest categories sell out first. The island itself lives by its own rules, and half the program takes place away from the main stages.

Music is only part of the schedule here. Between concerts, there's a circus, workshops, stamp stations, and a grill zone. If you only go to the main stage, you'll miss the most unusual stuff.

Below is the practical part. How much passes cost, how to get there from the airport, where to wait out the crowds, and what to do if music isn't your main thing.

Sziget 2027: what you need to know

💡 In short:

  • Dates: August 10-14, 2027, Óbuda Island in Budapest (official Sziget website).
  • Five-day passes are already on sale, the Super Early Bird category is cheaper than the rest (prices and categories).
  • Camping on the island is included in the pass price, no separate booking needed.
  • The HÉV suburban train and a ferry from the center get you to the island, and a free shuttle runs from the airport with the Sziget CityPass.
  • Tickets and dates: 09/2026, verified on the official Sziget website.

The festival takes place on Óbuda Island, which sits right within Budapest city limits. The center is easy to reach by suburban train and metro, so a Sziget trip is convenient to combine with a regular visit to the Hungarian capital. The crowd comes from all over the world, and you can tell right at the entrance.

Another reason to go: the local venues aren't limited to music. Below, we'll break down each part of the program in order. Organizers refresh the stages and shows every year (Time Out Budapest review).

How to get to Óbuda Island

Many people don't fly to Budapest. Direct trains and buses run from European cities to the Hungarian capital, and a Sziget Express with a DJ and onboard entertainment runs from the Netherlands every year. If you're coming from Berlin, the train is more convenient than flying when it comes to luggage.

The HÉV suburban train and a ferry from central Budapest will get you to the island itself. Both options are inexpensive and run throughout the festival, so staying overnight in the city doesn't stop you from setting up a tent on the island (official travel page).

There are three ways to get from Liszt Ferenc Airport. The free Sziget shuttle goes directly to the festival entrance, but you can only board it with a Sziget CityPass by Budapest Card (transfer terms). Bus 100E takes you to the city center in about 35-45 minutes (routes to the festival). Taxis and private transfers are cheaper to book in advance, especially for late-night arrivals. That way you won't waste time looking for a car with your luggage.

Below you can book an airport transfer to the island right away.

Passes and prices for Sziget 2027

The price depends on the category and how early you buy. The Super Early Bird category is the cheapest, and by August only the expensive ones are left.

Prices include VAT and do not depend on the length of your stay: the standard pass is valid for all five days of the festival (as of 09/2026, official Sziget website).

The 21&Under category is for guests aged 21 and younger, so check your age before paying (category terms). Online, a processing fee of 6.5% of the pass price is added. At the on-site box office there is no fee, but the pass itself may cost more. The takeaway is simple: buy online and buy early.

Green Sziget: sustainability without lectures

The festival supports those who arrive without flying. Anyone who travels by bike and covers at least 250 km gets a free spot at Camping of Nations and a rain cover for their saddle (Green Sziget). Bike parking on the island is free for everyone, not just for participants in the campaign.

Other initiatives focus on the island itself. After the festival you can drop off your tent for recycling, and during it you can collect trash and earn merch from previous years. The Green Sziget Center hosts talks about compost and sustainable food, and you can also bring clothes in for repair and play eco-games (Green Sziget program).

For you, this is a chance to pack lighter and get something for free.

Merch and hand-printed souvenirs

There is a large merch tent on the island. It sells festival and artist merchandise, as at most major festivals.

A separate story involves handmade souvenirs. Bring a simple item with you: a T-shirt, a tank top, or a canvas bag. Take it to Delta District, near the Aldi area. There is a screen-printing station run by an Italian festival crew. Printing is free, donations are welcome, and the designs change every year. Just come early: the line forms quickly.

Creative program: drag shows, circus, and drones

The creative side of Sziget is visible right at the entrance. The main bridge is decorated with flags, and at night it glows in different colors. Actors walk around the grounds and sometimes put on short improvisations right in front of you.

If you want a show, start at the Magic Mirror stage. Drag performances take place here, and it is one of the festival's most vibrant stages. Nearby there is stand-up comedy, usually in the evening, on the Joker stage. For those who prefer a calmer spectacle, there is Cirque du Sziget: several circus programs run every day in a separate tent. A bonus for those tired of the heat: the tent is air-conditioned.

In the evening after the headliners, drones light up the sky over the island. The show is short but draws a large crowd, so it is best to claim your spot early.

What to do yourself: stamps, workshops, and karaoke

You don't have to just watch shows, many activities involve direct participation. At the entrance you get a festival passport with stations where stamps are collected. To get a stamp, you need to complete a mini-game or answer a question. For a first visit, this is a good way to walk around the whole island and figure out where everything is.

At the Sziget Fun-Fair you can play different games, spin a diabolo, juggle, and ride a small Ferris wheel. An art zone with workshops operates nearby.

The activity program starts in the morning. Morning dances, breaking, yoga, and hip-hop run until midday, so you can start the day with exercise and then head to a stage. Also in the north of the island, beyond Delta District, there is karaoke: people sing everything there, from metal to Christmas songs. During the day at the Magic Runway area, you can draw with a drag model as the subject, so you can try yourself as an artist.

Where to rest on the island

After several hours of music, you want to sit down. The most popular spots for a break are near the stages: a lounge with sun loungers and beanbag chairs by The Buzz Stage, and hammocks scattered around the grounds.

The main difference between Sziget and other festivals is that you can pitch a tent almost anywhere on the island. You won't have to walk half an hour from the campsite to the first stage if you set up camp a couple hundred meters from the main stage. Techno fans pitch their tents right by the Colosseum stage and fall asleep to the bass.

If you want quiet, head toward the water: there are fewer people there and mornings are calmer.

During the day, the program runs on sponsor stages, and this is a separate world of the festival.

The most pleasant corner for a daytime break is by the Lipton lounge. There are beanbag chairs here, plenty of shade, and it's already busy in the morning. Sometimes free iced tea and small gifts are handed out. In the evening, life is in full swing at the Coca-Cola stage with DJ sets and at the Don Julio area.

At other partners' areas you can take on a challenge, spin a wheel of fortune, or play a game and get a souvenir. And Aldi deserves a special mention: it's already hard to imagine the festival without this sponsor.

Food on the island: Aldi and the grill zone

There is an Aldi supermarket on the island. It saves your budget, since food at the festival is expensive, and the on-site food selection is still large and tasty anyway.

The main highlight here is the Aldi grill zone. You pick grill products in the store: meat, fish, cheese, or a vegetarian option. Outside, they cook them on a contact grill and hand them over hot. Sauces are free.

If you still have room, check out the ice cream at Aldi. After a full day of dancing and workshops, it is the best way to end the evening.

⁉️🤔 Frequently asked questions

When will Sziget take place in 2027?

The festival is scheduled for August 10-14, 2027 and will again take place on Óbuda Island in Budapest (as of 09/2026, festival website). Plan your arrival in advance: during the festival, hotels in the center get more expensive, and camping on the island fills up quickly.

How much does a pass cost and does it include camping?

A five-day pass costs from €299 in the Super Early Bird category and €349 in the standard category, plus a processing fee (as of 09/2026, tickets and fees). Camping on the island is included in the price, no separate booking is needed. Guests aged 21 and under have their own, cheaper 21&Under category.

How do I get from the airport to the island?

A free shuttle runs from Liszt Ferenc Airport to the festival, but only with the Sziget CityPass by Budapest Card (conditions). Bus 100E takes you to the city center. To the island itself in Budapest, take the HÉV suburban train or a ferry from the center.

Can I pitch a tent anywhere on the island?

Yes, at Sziget you can pitch a tent almost anywhere, not just in a designated camping area. Those who want to sleep to techno set up near the Colosseum stage, those looking for quiet head toward the water.

What if music is not the main thing?

Then the program outside the stages will definitely be enough for you. During the day there are workshops, morning dances, karaoke, and stamp stations; in the evening there is a circus, drag shows, and stand-up. In the heat, hide in lounges with a stage and shade. And after the headliners, drones light up the sky over the island.

In short: what to book

It is better to buy your pass in advance: the Super Early Bird category is cheaper, and by August only expensive ones are left. You only need accommodation in Budapest if you want to sleep in a bed. Book your airport transfer before the trip, especially if you arrive at night.

  • If it is your first time: get a five-day pass and pitch your tent in a quiet part of the island.
  • If you have a free day: see the city, not just the island.

And finally: if you plan to stay in Budapest, book tours and excursions on GetYourGuide in advance.
