Business class: 5 airlines with the best service

A long-haul flight wears you out even in business class if the cabin is old and the service is weak. The seat doesn't recline fully, the menu is limited, and Wi-Fi costs extra. The difference between carriers in the premium segment is huge, and a high price doesn't always mean high quality.

We compared the business class of five major airlines: Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, and Cathay Pacific. For each one, we looked at seat type, dining, entertainment, and ground service, and also noted who each product suits best.

We checked cabin updates and recent awards against the airlines' official websites and the Skytrax rating (verified 09/13/2026). Below is the comparison, followed by a detailed breakdown of each carrier.

Our pick: five strongest business classes

First, a quick cheat sheet. All five carriers fly long-haul routes and offer a fully flat bed. The difference comes down to privacy, food, entertainment, and ground service.

💡 In short:

  • Choose a specific cabin type and aircraft rather than a brand: the same airline's product varies significantly from one plane to another.
  • For maximum privacy, go with Qatar Airways Qsuite or Cathay Pacific Aria Suite with a door, and for an onboard bar, head to Emirates.
  • Awards and cabin updates: verified 09/13/2026 on the Skytrax page about 2025 results

1. Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines, the national carrier of Singapore, is one of Asia's largest airlines. It flies to five continents, and its hub at Changi Airport is worth a visit in itself (according to Singapore Airlines). Business class depends on the aircraft type, so one brand gives you different products.

On the Airbus A380, seats are upholstered in genuine leather from Poltrona Frau. At the touch of a button, they recline into a comfortable bed, and the center-row seats work well for couples: the divider runs the full length but can be lowered. Every passenger gets slippers and a sleep mask, and the lavatory is stocked with Penhaligon's toiletries.

In front of you is a high-resolution touchscreen monitor and noise-canceling headphones. The entertainment system offers thousands of movies, games, and songs, plus a digital menu so you can review the flight's dishes in advance. Wi-Fi works on all aircraft except the Boeing 737-800NG. Dinner is served on fine porcelain with champagne and wines from various wine regions.

On the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787, the seats are a different type but still recline into a bed via a fold-down backrest. On some aircraft, a third seat position is offered. It's a semi-reclined resting position with extra room for your torso and legs. Linen blankets are included. You pre-order your main course through the Book the Cook service, no later than 24 hours before departure.

  • Who it's for: couples and those who want to choose their main course in advance through Book the Cook.
  • Not for: travelers who need maximum privacy with a suite door.
  • The catch: the product depends heavily on the aircraft, and seats on older planes are simpler.

2. Emirates Airlines

Emirates is based in Dubai and ranks among the world's largest airlines. A distinctive feature of the carrier is the large number of Boeing 777s in its fleet, and you can view the cabin in 3D online (according to Emirates). Wide seats are separated by a high partition with a personal minibar built in.

Seats recline into a bed, and right in front of you is a large screen with hundreds of movies and shows. Personal amenity kits and sleepwear sets are prepared for the flight. The menu reflects the cuisine of different regions, and you book your onboard dinner no later than 24 hours before departure (according to Emirates airline).

On select fares and routes, a complimentary personal chauffeur service is included with your business class ticket: you're driven to and from the airport. At the airport, you wait for your flight in a dedicated lounge rather than the common area.

The company received the new Airbus A350 in 2025, and it features the next-generation business class: enclosed suites with a minibar, updated lighting, and 4K screens (according to Emirates). On the Airbus A380, there is also a bar lounge where you can sit at a shared table with chef-prepared snacks.

  • Who it's for: those who want ground service with a chauffeur and a bar on board.
  • Not for: travelers flying a short regional route on an older aircraft.
  • The catch: you need to confirm your dinner order in advance, otherwise you get the standard set.

3. Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways, the national carrier of Qatar, is based in Doha. The airline's business class was named the best in the world at the Skytrax World Airline Awards two years in a row, in 2024 and 2025 (according to Skytrax). In 2024, their Qsuite product also won the award for best business class seat.

Qsuite seats are separated from neighbors by doors, with decorative lighting, a bed, and a storage compartment inside. The main feature is the four section types: a single suite, a double suite, a double suite with separate beds, and The Quad for four people. In The Quad, the seats face each other, making it a good option for a family or a group of friends.

On long overnight flights, you get everything for sleeping: pillows, a quilted mattress, a down duvet, pajamas, and slippers from The White Company. The cabin features calm lighting, and a Diptyque amenity kit with face and body products awaits you at your seat.

Passengers are entertained by the Oryx One system with a touch interface on the Airbus A350, A380, and Boeing 787. The screen is dual, so you can handle some tasks on a portable device while a movie plays on your personal monitor. Many aircraft offer free Wi-Fi, and the à la carte menu covers the needs of even the most discerning travelers.

Qsuite is not available on all aircraft, so check the cabin type and aircraft before purchasing. If you specifically want The Quad four-person section, choose a flight on an Airbus A350 or a Boeing 777 with the new cabin: older aircraft have a different design.

  • Who it's for: couples and families who want a door, a bed, and maximum privacy.
  • Not for: those who are fine with a simple lie-flat seat without a private suite.
  • The catch: Qsuite is not installed on all aircraft, so the product depends on the flight.

4. Etihad Airways

Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the UAE, operates out of Abu Dhabi (according to Etihad Airways). Business class here includes a thoughtful airport transfer: on some fares, a chauffeur-driven car picks up the ticket holder. At the airport, a porter meets you and helps carry your bags to the counters in a dedicated check-in area.

If you have time, you can dine in the lounge, grab a drink at the bar, relax, and take a shower. Designer Giorgio Armani had a hand in the cabin interiors, with the traditions of the Emirates serving as inspiration. Flight attendants greet passengers with a drink of their choice, from juice to champagne.

The seats are adjustable for firmness, with a headrest and back support, a generous recline, and plenty of legroom. On wide-body aircraft they convert into a full bed. Every business class passenger receives an Acqua di Parma amenity kit with an eye mask, earplugs, socks, and fragrance, and a shaving kit is available on request.

Wi-Fi on board is paid, but Etihad Guest members get a free package. Without internet, you can watch a movie, listen to music, or play games on the E-BOX system. Food lovers are served a three-course meal: the menu features national recipes from the UAE and other countries, as well as light snacks. Sandwiches and desserts can be requested at any time.

  • Who it's for: those who value ground service from their front door to the jet bridge.
  • Not for: travelers who need free Wi-Fi without joining the program.
  • The catch: free internet is available only to loyalty program members.
  • Prices: check Etihad Airways prices on Kiwi.com

5. Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong's flag carrier, introduced its new Aria Suite business class in 2024 and is installing it on Boeing 777-300ER aircraft (according to Cathay Pacific). The layout is 1-2-1, the seat has a sliding door, and it converts into a full bed.

Partitions provide privacy, and you can adjust the lighting and seat position to your liking. The cabin maintains controlled pressure and humidity, which has a positive effect on how you feel during a long flight. For sleeping, you get slippers, a mask, and cotton bedding from Bamford.

To freshen up, there's an amenity kit from the same company with natural products that protect your skin in flight. Meals are served at a time that suits you: international cuisine, Hong Kong recipes, light snacks, and drinks.

Entertainment comes via a multimedia system with an individual touchscreen: the library of movies, TV shows, and music is updated every month. Wi-Fi works on board, and the new Aria Suite cabin is gradually replacing the old one on all long-haul Boeing 777s.

  • Who it's for: those who value quiet, privacy, and an updated cabin.
  • Not for: passengers willing to settle for the old business class to pay less.
  • The catch: the Aria Suite is only on some Boeing 777s; on other flights the cabin is the previous version.

What to consider when choosing business class

The type of cabin matters more than the airline name. One brand flies both new aircraft and machines that are a decade old, and the product differs dramatically. Before buying, check the aircraft type and seat layout in the booking.

Long-haul business class almost always gives you a lie-flat bed, while regional often offers only a wide seat with a significant recline. If sleep is what you need, choose a flight on a wide-body aircraft.

Wi-Fi on board is not free with every airline. Qatar Airways has it on some aircraft, while at Etihad Airways everyone pays except loyalty program members. Chauffeur transfer is also not included in every fare, so confirm the terms when booking.

Skytrax awards are updated every year, so refer to the latest ranking (2025 results).

⁉️🤔 Frequently asked questions

How is business class different from premium economy?

In business class, the seat usually converts into a bed, there's a separate area, and priority at the check-in counter. In premium economy, the seat is wider than standard, but you can't sleep lying down. Food and service in business class are better, but the price is also noticeably higher. Check the difference on a specific aircraft in the booking.

Which airline has the best business class?

According to the Skytrax ranking, Qatar Airways leads with its Qsuite product. Next on the list are Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Cathay Pacific, and Etihad Airways. The final choice depends on the route and aircraft type, because the product varies from plane to plane.

Does business class include airport transfer?

Not with every carrier. Emirates and Etihad Airways provide a free chauffeur-driven car, but usually only on certain fares and routes. Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific do not include transfer; you get there on your own. Check the terms when booking your ticket.

Can you sleep lying down in business class?

On long-haul flights, the seat usually converts into an almost fully flat bed, including on Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, and Cathay Pacific. On short regional flights, it's often just a wide seat with a significant recline and no full flat mode. Check the cabin type in the flight description.

Do you need to order food in advance in business class?

With Singapore Airlines and Emirates, you book your main course in advance, usually no later than 24 hours before departure, otherwise you get food from the standard selection. Qatar Airways and Cathay Pacific serve the menu on request or at a time that suits you. Check the exact deadline with the carrier.

In short: what to book

If you want maximum privacy with a door and a bed, go for Qatar Airways Qsuite or Cathay Pacific Aria Suite. Want a bar on board? Then Emirates is your option. For ground service from your front door to the jet bridge, Etihad Airways fits. If you want to pre-select your main course through Book the Cook, choose Singapore Airlines.

All five products are in the premium segment, so focus on dates and route, not just the brand. Compare business class prices and book the flight with the cabin type you need: view business class tickets on Kiwi.com.
