The biggest hotels in the world: 2026 ranking by number of rooms
🏨 Giants of the hotel world: 7,351 rooms at the leader, six of nine hotels are in Las Vegas, plus building data and…
Read more →The destination is chosen, yet there are still more questions than answers. You already know where you are going, and now you want to work out what is worth your time there. Some people need a ready plan for the day, others are curious about the things a standard guidebook leaves out. We have gathered under one name the articles that answer both needs.
The section covers more than its name suggests. Its core is practical: walking routes through cities for one day, two days or a longer stay. They include Istanbul, London, Porto, Liverpool, Helsinki and Rotterdam. Many routes list ticket prices and opening hours right away. Alongside them are roundups of day trips from Milan, Lisbon and Vienna, as well as an overview of places in Czechia beyond Prague.
A separate group of articles is devoted to specific sights. These are the Palace of Versailles, the Alhambra in Granada, Abu Simbel, the temples of Angkor, Old Town Square in Prague, the Tuileries Garden, the Magritte Museum in Brussels and the churches of Florence. Each of these articles goes through tickets, opening hours, how to get there and the order of the visit. There are beach roundups too: Croatia, Menorca, Tenerife, Phuket, Barcelona. They tell you where to swim with children, where to look for quiet and how to reach the shore.
The facts themselves are here as well. We write about Ireland, Spain and Australia, about the oldest restaurants in the world, major festivals, the dishes of Iceland and advice from Mexicans to visitors. Some articles deal with nature: a safari in Yala National Park, Olympic National Park, Eternal Flame Falls in New York State. Less common topics turn up too: gambling tourism, catacombs and ossuaries, technologies that are changing travel. Standing apart are a selection of seaside hotels in Rimini and a breakdown of the ways to get from Europe to the USA.
Every article opens with a short answer to the main question. Practical sections follow: how to get there, what to buy in advance, how much time to allow for the visit. For prices and opening hours we state the source and the date of the check, and we verify the details against official websites and the map. We are direct about the downsides: lines, closing days, an awkward journey, pebbles instead of sand. If details may change, we say so in the text.
The section suits anyone who is planning an independent trip and wants to build a day by day program. It is also useful if you are still choosing between two cities or two coasts. Travel experience does not matter here: the articles are written for a first visit to a city as well. If you are after light reading with no practical use, only some of the articles will suit you. Nor is this a reference guide to a single country: the topics vary and the geography is wide.
Start with the article about your city: the route gives you the overall picture and the order of the visit. Then open the articles on the individual sights that made it into your plan and check the conditions for buying tickets. After that, look at the day trips if a free day remains in your schedule. The facts about the country are best read last. They help you understand local habits and everyday details before you fly.
The section belongs to "Types of travel". If you have not yet settled on the format of your trip, take a look at "Vacation ideas" and "Tourist ideas". Practical advice on preparation is collected in "For a note", and ways to cut costs are in "Affordable vacation". For trips with a program on the spot there are "Entertainment", "Water parks" and "Active recreation".
We update the articles: prices, schedules and entry rules change from season to season. New articles appear in the section regularly, and the topics stay the same: cities, sights, beaches, countries. Always check visa and entry information with the official sources of the country you are traveling to. Before your trip, open the article you need once more and look at the date of the last check. That way you will be planning with current information.
